Movie buffs might already know that the 1999 version of Anna and the King was filmed right on these grounds. The town was named after the Ipoh tree, which stands in the picturesque gardens.
Then, you will be going to the original birthplace of Ipoh White Coffee, Nam Heong Coffee Shop. The Iced White Coffee would be what you expected it to be – bold, aromatic and creamy.

Hale Lane, Panglima Lane and Market Lane are knows respectively in the local Cantonese dialect as "First, Second and Third Concubines' Lane". Before the Japanes Occupation, the three lanes were filled with brothels, gaming houses and opium dens. According to residents, should an opium addict drop dead, his corpse would be flung out the window and into the street, where municipal sweepers would cart it away in the morning. Panglima Lane is one of the most picturesque of the narron streets in this section of Ipoh.

According to legend, a monk from China discovered the cave and made it his domicile for 20 years until his death. The temple features a wishing well, a pond filled with Japanese carp and tortoises that roam freely.
